YOUR DEDICATED WELLBEING COACH
Meet the coach who'll transform your workplace wellbeing.
PROFESSIONAL JOURNEY
With over 16 years in the health and fitness industry, I've experienced every facet of wellness coaching and business leadership. My journey began in private gym instruction and personal training, where I developed expertise in specialized areas including GP referral, diabetes, and obesity care.
Advancing to PT Manager and then Fitness Manager at a national gym chain, I consistently ranked among the top 5 trainers nationwide while deepening my understanding of organizational wellbeing. In 2018, I established Set the Pace Health and Fitness, my private training studio, later expanding into online coaching during Covid to reach even more clients. To date, I've guided more than 500 people to transform their health and fitness.
My approach focuses on education, empowering clients to understand the 'why' behind their wellness journey, leading to sustainable, long-term results rather than quick fixes. Having worked across private gyms, national chains, and my own business, I bring unique insights to workplace wellbeing. As both a wellness expert and business owner, I understand firsthand the challenges of maintaining good health alongside a demanding career. This combination of industry expertise and real-world business experience makes me uniquely qualified to deliver practical strategies that create lasting positive change.
FAMILY, LIFE AND VALUES
While I'm passionate about what I do, my deepest commitment is to my family. Married with three boys, including twins, my life took on new meaning when I became a father. The moment I walk through my front door after a day's work, seeing my children's faces lights up my world - it's a daily reminder of my core belief that we work to live, not live to work.
Our twins' premature birth and the exceptional care they received from Hull's NICU inspired significant charitable work, including raising £7,000 for Hull Royal Infirmary's Baby Unit through a challenging 24-hour fundraising event, adding to years of supporting causes like Movember.
My sporting background is centred around both golf and rugby. Unfortunately, for the latter, a number of injuries meant I had to retire early. But in golf, I found my stride, competing at junior county level, captaining my university team, and reaching a handicap of 6 - even managing that elusive hole in one! While I still play today, it's evolved into something more social, where friendship and fun take priority over scorecards. I find balance through diverse interests: enjoying rock concerts with my wife, unwinding to classical music, watching films, and maintaining my nightly reading ritual.
Managing a busy family life while running a business and maintaining personal wellbeing has given me valuable insights into the real-world challenges faced by busy professionals. This combination of personal experience and understanding makes me uniquely qualified to guide others in finding sustainable approaches to wellbeing that work within the context of their busy lives.
WALKING THE TALK
My own transformation journey gives me a unique perspective on what it truly takes to achieve lasting results. Starting in the fitness industry in 2007 at 70kg, I've built myself up to a lean and strong 93kg naturally, overcoming numerous injuries along the way including a torn bicep and pec, with each set back teaching me valuable lessons about resilience and adaptation.
My approach to both nutrition and training has evolved significantly. Gone are the days of extreme bodybuilder-style dieting and excessive training volumes. Instead, I embrace the sustainable 80:20 rule - eating healthily most of the time while enjoying life's pleasures, and focusing on 3-4 strength sessions weekly. This balanced approach, born from years of experience, proves that optimal results come from smart, focused training rather than endless hours in the gym.
One of my greatest challenges came when attempting to break the world record for the most chest to floor burpees completed in 24-hours. While I unfortunately didn't break the record, completing the full 24 hours taught me profound lessons about determination, the changed my perspective on what we're truly capable of when driven by a powerful enough 'why' - a lesson I bring to every client interaction. From competing in men's physique to achieving personal bests of a 250kg deadlift, 150kg bench press, 185kg squat, and a sub 20 minute 5 km, plus completing a half marathon, I've accomplished a number significant milestones throughout my fitness journey. Now approaching 40, I'm in better shape than I was at 21 - not through restrictive regimes, but through smart, sustainable approaches. This journey has shaped my coaching philosophy: helping others achieve their goals while maintaining balance and enjoying life
My unique blend of professional expertise and personal experiences makes me the ideal partner for your workplace wellbeing journey. As someone who's successfully navigated the demands of business ownership, family life, and peak physical performance, I truly understand the challenges your employees face. The lessons learned through my own evolution - from rigid approaches to sustainable solutions, from setbacks to comebacks, and from personal goals to helping others - have shaped a coaching philosophy that delivers real results in the real world. I'm passionate about translating these insights into practical strategies that will help your workforce thrive and your business excel. Together, we'll create positive, lasting change that enhances both individual wellbeing and organizational success.
